IBM i storage is moving 'Outside the box' and the IBM Storwize family is the number one target. While Storwize brings a lot of advanced capabilities this session is where to start. We'll start with the basic configuration of the Storwize family and some of the drive options from the large near line drives to super fast and massive SSDs along with the software options available. Then we'll 'take the SAN out of the box' and look at the connections it requires. We'll go through the basic setup including initial IP addressing, Storage configuration, RAID5, RAID 6 and RAIDZ options. Then we'll set up call home so IBM knows when there are problems and configure reporting so staff knows there are problems as well. Next we'll discuss the components needed to make the storage on the SAN available to IBM i including the Host, the LUNs and mapping them together. Finally we'll look at messages and the performance graphs that Storwize provides for us. At the end of this sessions you will understand the components of the Storwize family and what's needed to configure one to support IBM i on your Power System.
