No More Excuses, Save the Entire System Using the IBM i Default Job Scheduler

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Have you ever wanted to run a full system save without having to run from the system console, or when no one was on site? Have you wanted to run a RCLSTG without actually being at the System Console? In this session I will show you techniques that you can use on your system to perform a full system save, a SAVSYS or any other function that requires a system restricted state from the job scheduler in unattended mode. I will show tips and techniques I have learned from over 11 years of automated full system saves in batch a un-attended mode.

Learning Objectives:

The take away from this presentation is how to run any job the requires a Restricted System State without standing by the System Console. Review the IBM supplied Full System Save – Option 21 from the GO save menu. Discuss ‘Batch Restricted State’ and how to take advantage of this feature of the OS for your backup. Discuss restarting or IPL’ing your system after the backup. Use the System Reply list to avoid unexpected errors. Discuss techniques to manage the backup tape cartridges. Review Sample code provided.
